Cuban owned ‘Empamamas’ is one of the original eateries established in Armature Works when it first came to Tampa’s Downtown. Founded and owned Stephanie Swanz, Empamamas is known for filling their empanadas with non-traditional foods to craft a unique and delicious dish like their “Cheeseburger in Paradise” empanada.

The Urban Excellence Awards celebrates businesses, organizations, individuals, events, and projects that have made significant contributions toward creating a unique, vibrant, and diverse downtown environment—and have made a lasting, positive impact on Tampa’s Downtown.
Help us recognize what makes Tampa’s Downtown great by becoming a jury member and participating in the awards selection process. The deadline to apply to be on the jury is Friday, October 20, 2023.
Tampa Bay Police Chief Lee Bercaw released an open letter to the Tampa community and mentioned that he is focusing on “community oriented policing, strengthening of community relations, recruitment efforts and future initiatives.” Through new programs and initiatives, crime will continue to decrease and community trust in law enforcement will increase.
