Winter Village Tampa
Boat Parade participants will vie for prizes that include First, Second, and Third place in both Motor Boat and Sail Boat categories. All registered boaters will also be invited to a Captain’s Meeting and Party, scheduled for Monday, December 16 and hosted by Yacht StarShip and Florida Ave. Brewing. Interested boaters may now register for the event by logging onto www.TampaRiverwalk.com/Events. The participation fee is $50 per boat. The Holiday Lighted Boat Parade is free for spectators, who are encouraged to gather along the Riverwalk to cheer on the boaters and enjoy the imaginative lighted boats.
Throughout the holiday season, there’s plenty to do along the 2.6 mile Riverwalk. Visit the annual Winter Village at Curtis Hixon Park for ice skating, local craft and food vendors, and ride the Winter Village Express Streetcar from downtown’s Whiting Station to Ybor City and back. The Riverwalk itself will be lit up with festive decorations with light posts wrapped in traditional green garland, white lights and red bows along the entire boulevard. As part of the annual Holiday Harbour celebration, there will also be several floating platforms with lighted displays at various parks along the Riverwalk, including the 35-foot lighted, floating Christmas tree in the Convention Center Basin.
Some of the best public viewing of the Lighted Boat Parade will be available at the following times and locations*:

The Holiday Lighted Boat Parade is presented by Tampa General Hospital and sponsored by Pirate Water Taxi, Yacht StarShip Cruises and Events, and Sparkman Wharf.
Creating safe and comfortable trails and bicycle lanes that connect Tampa’s neighborhoods is a key part of Mayor Jane Castor’s Transforming Tampa’s Tomorrow (T3) initiative.
“As a police officer, I saw firsthand a family’s devastation when I had to tell them their loved one passed away due to a distracted driver and that’s why, as part of our Transforming Tampa’s Tomorrow initiative, we made a commitment to Vision Zero,” said Mayor Jane Castor. “Tampa’s residents and our visitors demand and deserve safe pedestrian, bike, multimodal lanes and sidewalks and our team is hard at work delivering just that.”
While bike lanes tend to be the safest place for cyclists to ride, many people do not feel safe using conventional bike lanes because of the close proximity to passing cars. In the coming years, the City of Tampa will begin constructing protected bike lanes throughout the City. Protected bike lanes are bike lanes that are physically separated from motor vehicle traffic using a barrier. In some areas, protection is provided by installing a raised curb such as on Cass Street and Jackson Street in Downtown. In other locations where raised curb cannot be installed or where raised curb is planned to be installed sometime in the future, flexible delineators are a simple option that can be installed in less time to provide enhanced separation.
Over the next year and beyond, the City of Tampa will begin pilot testing new innovative products and application methods for protected bike lanes under a series of pilot projects. The first protected bike lane with flexible delineators was installed on Azeele Street near the SoHo Publix (Pictured) and most recently on Bayshore Blvd. This location was chosen to discourage drivers from parking in the bike lane.
Other locations that are currently being studied for protected bike lanes with flexible delineators include:
So, keep an eye out for more protected bike lanes and other innovative bicycle safety infrastructure popping up around the City!
