Tampa’s Downtown was alive this weekend with the start of the holiday season at Winter Village at Curtis Hixon Park, presented by the Tampa Bay Lightning. More holiday decor can be found at Water Street Tampa and along the Tampa Riverwalk. Winter Village features a real ice rink, local shops, festive food and drink, and a holiday light show. Ice skating tickets must be purchased in advance.

The Tampa Bay Times took a look at Winter Village’s newest feature, street curling, and the origins of the popular winter sport. Visitors can play street curling for free during operating hours in short increments or can join the curling league on Wednesday during the season, presented by Cigar City Brewing and operated by Rec Rec and Shuffle Tampa.

Yacht StarShip recently announced the debut of Bay Rocket, a 2,800-horsepower speedboat thrill ride that will begin operation on Friday, November 18, running from 11am to sunset every weekend.
