Local historians connect the complicated 500-year story of Cuba and its ties to Tampa

Cuban Pathways The Exhibition covers early Spanish settlements and the arrival of the first Africans to the island, and it includes first-hand accounts of émigrés fleeing Revolutionary Cuba. The collection will occupy more than 2,000 square feet of gallery space at the History Center when it opens Friday, Feb. 11, 2022, for a year-long showing.

Bright and early on the Monday after Gasparilla, pirates reported for duty at City Hall

On Saturday, Mayor Jane Castor finally surrendered the key to the City to the captain of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla. Turns out, running the City isn’t what the pirates thought it would be. After some office shenanigans, meeting outbursts and failed attempts at municipal duties, they decided to return the keys to Mayor Jane Castor.
