The Tempest

On a distant island, a woman waits. Robbed of her position, power and wealth, her enemies have left her in isolation. But this is no ordinary woman nor an ordinary island. She is a magician, able to control the very elements and bend nature to her will. When the vessel carrying those who wronged her appears in the distance, she creates a vast magical storm to bring them to her, and the ship’s passengers find themselves in a place where nothing is as it seems. Opening Reception for When the Water Rises: Recent Paintings by Julie Heffernan
Begins 7pm
Scarfone/Hartley Gallery – University of Tampa
Reception and curatorial tour with Francesca Bacci, UT associate professor of art. Heffernan’s recent paintings create alternative habitats in response to environmental disaster and planetary excess. With rising waters, she imagines worlds in trees or on rafts in which undulating mattresses, tree boughs and road signs guide the journey. Opening Reception

This Is Spinal Tap (1984)

Rob Reiner’s masterpiece is the world’s first “mockumentary”, taking the form of a behind-the-scenes documentary with a fictional heavy metal band Spinal Tap as they head out on a US tour.
