The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane – Preview
Begins 7:30pm
Strageworks Theatre
Edward Tulane is an expensive toy rabbit. He is loved by a little girl named Abilene, but Edward doesn’t care. He is vain and self-centered. He has no interest in anyone other than himself. On an ocean voyage, Edward is accidentally thrown overboard and sinks to the bottom of the sea, and so begins his journey. As years pass by, Edward meets many different people in many different situations and through this miraculous journey, Edward learns what it is to love, what it is to lose that love, and how to find the courage to love again. Backstabbing politicians, two-faced frenemies, gaslighting, treachery, true love and the never-ending cultural complications of a “black ram tupping a white ewe,” Shakespeare’s Othello might as well be talking about this year’s headlines. Gasparilla Parade of Pirates
Begins 2pm
Downtown Tampa and Bayshore Boulevard
To celebrate their capture of the City of Tampa, the Captain and his Krewe share their glittering beads, treasures, and doubloons with a lively, enthusiastic crowd all along the 4.5 mile parade route. “Make way, mateys!” shout Tampa’s original buccaneers as they wind their way down historic Bayshore Boulevard and into Downtown Tampa amidst colorful costumes and festive music. The parade will boast over 140 units, including more than 103 elaborate floats, 5 marching bands, over 50 distinct Krewes and, of course, those infamous pirates! Gasparilla Parade of Pirates

Step back in time and enjoy the single-character performances that bring turn-of-the-century Tampa Bay Hotel staff members and guests to life. Each character is based on actual hotel staff and guests. From the reminiscences of Henry Plant himself to the letters of a Spanish-American War soldier, you will learn more about the time period through each character’s particular vantage point. This Bond-themed weekend will feature a two-tiered wine tasting with dozens of boutique wines, small plates from Tampa’s top independent restaurants, and premium silent auction items representing Bay area retailers, restaurants, services and attractions.
