Water Street Tampa continues to evolve with plans for another residential high-rise in the heart of Downtown. Strategic Property Partners has submitted plans to the City of Tampa for a new luxury tower at the corner of Water Street and Cumberland Avenue, adding to the neighborhood’s growing mix of housing, retail, and public spaces.
The proposed building would rise approximately 400 feet and include 452 residential units above more than 37,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space. The project is set to create additional opportunities for shopping, dining, and neighborhood amenities. The proposal is now entering the City’s development review process and represents another step in the continued growth of Tampa’s Downtown.

The Gasworx development has reached an important milestone with the completion of key agreements needed to advance the future East 4th Avenue rail crossing. The finalized agreements allow the project to move closer to construction on a long-planned connection that will improve access between Tampa’s Downtown and Ybor City, helping restore portions of the historic street network that have been separated for decades.
The new crossing is a central piece of the broader Gasworx vision, which includes new streets, utilities, public spaces, and infrastructure designed to create stronger connections between surrounding neighborhoods. Once completed, the improvements are expected to enhance mobility for residents, workers, and visitors while supporting continued investment and growth throughout one of Tampa’s most transformative redevelopment districts.
The Florida Aquarium is inviting the community to participate in its second Sea Change Community Meeting tomorrow. Attendees will be able to learn more about the Aquarium’s proposed expansion and help shape its future. The project includes plans for new habitats featuring puffins, African penguins, and California sea lions, along with other enhancements designed to expand the visitor experience.
The meeting will take place in The Florida Aquarium’s Vinik Room tomorrow, Tuesday, July 28 from 5 to 6 p.m. Attendees will have an opportunity to preview early design concepts, hear directly from the project team, and share feedback as planning continues.

Members of the Tampa Downtown Partnership’s Downtown Futures Internship Cohort recently attended a Tampa City Council meeting to gain firsthand insight into municipal government and the decision-making processes that help shape our urban core.
Interns had the opportunity to observe local government in action while learning how public policy influences the future of the urban core and the City of Tampa as a whole. They explored how factors such as public investment, infrastructure, economic development, and community initiatives are evaluated by city officials.
Experiences like these are a key component of the Downtown Futures Internship Program, helping prepare the next generation of civic and urban leaders through meaningful, real-world learning opportunities.
DASH Driver Ambassadors ensure efficient transportation of individuals between 20+ designated DASH hubs within the Special Services District (SSD) of Tampa’s Downtown while being a friendly and inviting ambassador of Downtown. Driver Ambassadors operate a company-provided four-door EV and utilize app-based software to receive and accept ride requests, navigate hub locations, and track rides.
