Nearly $770 Million Plan To Boost Bay Area and Downtown Mobility

The Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority (THEA) has approved a $767.7 million, six-year Work Program that will invest in transportation improvements across the region, including several projects with direct benefits for Tampa’s Downtown. Among the key initiatives are the South Selmon Capacity Project, the Whiting Street Project, and improvements along the East Selmon Expressway. These critical corridors connect thousands of commuters, residents, visitors, and businesses to Downtown each day.

The program is designed to improve traffic flow, enhance reliability, and prepare the transportation network for continued population and economic growth. By investing in infrastructure that strengthens access to Downtown and surrounding communities, these projects will help support regional connectivity while making it easier for people to live, work, and visit Tampa’s urban core.
