Annual Meeting: June 15

We’ve set the date for our Annual Meeting and Luncheon for Thursday, June 15 from 11:30am until 1:30pm at the Hilton Tampa Downtown Hotel. The Partnership’s signature event celebrates accomplishments and inducts new leadership for Tampa Downtown Partnership. Keynote speakers deliver thoughtful discussion, exciting downtown updates, and the Partnership’s vision for the upcoming year. Tampa Downtown Partnership is proud to bring you weekly fitness classes in Curtis Hixon Park, the Mayor’s Food Truck Fiesta the first Wednesday of every month, Rock the Park the first Thursday of every month, Do the Local Motion walking tours on the first and third Friday, and annual events like Winter Village and the Mayor’s River O’Green. We at Tampa Downtown Partnership are dedicated to bringing people together to enjoy our beautiful public spaces with activities to engage and inspire. Development Forum: Downtown In Motion

Mark your calendar! The 21st Annual Development Forum will take place on Friday, March 24 from 8am until noon at the Tampa Convention Center. The Development Forum is a half-day event that explores innovative ideas in urban development and serves as a catalyst for discussion and problem solving for major urban issues. Downtown businesses are reaching out to children’s cancer charities in very generous ways.  As a result of a successful “Six Years, Six Pizzas” fundraiser, the Tampa Pizza Company and its customers made a substantial donation to the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation. At Anise Global Gastrobar, the owners are taking part in the Beat NB at Gasparilla 5K; those who donate $25 or more to their fundraising page will be treated to a scrumptious preview of the North Star Eatery at the Food Hall on Franklin, all for their support of research for neuroblastoma.

ReliaQuest to Create 150 Jobs

Tampa data security company ReliaQuest announced that it will create at least 150 new jobs at its new headquarters on Harbour Island this year. The new jobs will allow the company to introduce new advanced monitoring solutions for its security operations and build a new research and development department. Founded in 2007, ReliaQuest sells technology and services that protect Fortune 200 to regional-sized clients in the health care, retail, utilities, telecom and financial services fields from data breaches.

Another Look at Lafayette Place

In October of last year, Hillsborough River Realty Company announced they were applying for a mixed-use development rezoning from the City of Tampa. The proposed three-parcel mixed-use development is titled “Lafayette Place”, a name which recognizes the historical significance to the City of the Lafayette Street Bridge (the original bridge completed in 1889 was the first general traffic bridge across the Hillsborough River; its name was changed to Kennedy Boulevard Bridge in 1963). Lafayette Place will offer three complementary 21st century structures. Lafayette Tower, with 355 linear feet of Hillsborough River frontage, will include office, hotel and retail uses. Lafayette Parkview will offer extraordinary high-end residential homes, retail, and parking. Lafayette Central will offer high-end residences, retail, and parking. ICYMI: New Cycle Track Coming DT

The first ever cycle track on a state road is coming to Downtown Tampa. Unlike most conventional bike lanes, a four-foot raised island will separate cyclists from traffic. The cycle track will be ten feet wide. At locations where driveways and side streets intersect with the bicycle pathway, special bright green pavement markings will alert drivers and cyclists to look out for each other. The cycle track will run along the north side of Jackson Street from Ashley Drive to Nebraska Avenue.

Beginning this week, Monday Morning Memo will feature a transportation app to make your travel easier. This week, we are featuring Downtowner. Customer Satisfaction Improves with HART

The Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority is touting a huge jump in its score on a customer satisfaction survey — an increase of 128 percent since August 2015. According to the latest quarterly survey of about 500 HART riders, the public transit system has drastically improved its customer service since conducting its first survey last year. Results of the survey, which was conducted at different times of day and days of the week on all HART routes to measure customer impressions, indicate that HART is outperforming the national transit industry in customer satisfaction by 28 percent. UT Professor Receives Lifetime Achievement

Rebecca White, professor and director of the entrepreneurship center, was recently awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for Entrepreneurship. The United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE) Max J. Wortman Lifetime Achievement Award for Entrepreneurship is presented in recognition of achievement that encompasses the ideals of entrepreneurial activity. The Awards Committee also extends the award to those whose life supports and advocates entrepreneurial ideals. White is the 14th person to receive this honor. 

Haneke Design Joins the EDC

Haneke Design has joined the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation (EDC) as a Chairman’s Council Investor. The EDC is the lead designated economic development agency for Hillsborough County and the cities of Tampa, Temple Terrace, and Plant City. As a Chairman’s Council Investor, Haneke Design president Jody Haneke will serve on the board of the EDC, serve on a Standing Committee, participate in a domestic business development mission, and join in other leadership activities and Investor-only events.

HART Celebrates Black History Month

In celebration of Black History Month, the Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority (HART) has planned several activities to celebrate Black History Month. Rosa Parks, the “Mother of the Civil Rights Movement,” will be honored by designating a seat on every HART bus. Each of these special seat covers will have a commemorative sign displayed on them, honoring both Parks’ legacy and her dedication to the Civil Rights Movement.  In addition, HART has also produced a video – HART Generations of Services. This video features three HART retirees who tell their personal stories about how HART has changed through the years and how HART shaped their lives. Also, on February 21, HART will host a reception for our retirees at the Robert W. Saunders Sr. Public Library at 5pm.

Scott W. Dibbs, Shareholder at Hill Ward Henderson, was recently named Best Attorney by NAIOP Tampa Bay Commercial Real Estate Development Association. During the 17th annual Best of the Best Awards, NAIOP Tampa Bay recognized local businesses and professionals for their contributions to the commercial real estate industry in 2016. NAIOP Tampa Bay is the area’s leading trade organization representing developers, owners, investors and other professionals in commercial real estate.

Extensive Renovation in South Tampa

A new owner, S&S Property Group, closed on a historic building where Hugo’s Spanish Restaurant was housed for more than 40 years. The company is working on an extensive renovation that will modernize its residential units and add a third floor.  Under the plans submitted to the city, a portion of the ground floor that abuts an alley would be demolished to create 12 surface parking spaces. The second floor, currently home to 16 residential units, will be gutted and renovated with nine units. S&S Property Group paid $2.7 million for the building.

Crescent Westshore Apartments Sold

Crescent Communities’ Crescent Westshore, a 374-unit luxury apartment community in Tampa that opened in September 2016, has sold to Nashville-based Nicol Investment Company for $80 million. The apartment community opened on September 1, and it has experienced significant success in leasing. At the time of sale, the community was 50 percent occupied after being open for just five months. The community is at 2202 N. Lois Ave., near the intersection of Lois Avenue and Boy Scout Boulevard, and is walkable to numerous restaurants, shops and offices.

Tampa Named a Popular Moving Destination

A new study said the Tampa Bay area was the fifth most popular moving destination in the U.S. in 2016. The study, Penske Truck Rental: 2016 Top Moving Destinations, was compiled using one-way rental truck data. The company said it has been recording and publishing the data in an annual report since 2011.

Lucky’s Market Expands into Tampa Bay

The first Lucky’s Market coming to the Tampa Bay area is opening in the summer of 2018 as part of a redevelopment project at Tyrone Square Mall in St. Petersburg. Seritage Growth Properties, a New York based real estate developer, is moving forward with plans to demolish the 188,515-square-foot Sears store to make way for a new 151,952-square-foot shopping center, according to building permits filed in St. Petersburg. Leases have already been signed with Dick’s Sporting Goods, Lucky’s Market, and Petsmart.
