Snap Judgment, the public radio storytelling phenomena, electrifies Tampa audiences on WUSF 89.7 every week. This fall, WUSF is bringing Glynn Washington and the rest of the Snap Judgment crew to Tampa Theatre for a one-night-only LIVE performance on Friday, September 29.
Created by Washington, produced by WNYC, and launched on NPR stations five years ago, Snap delivers a raw, intimate, musical brand of narrative — daring audiences to see the world through the eyes of another. It is heard weekly on more than 365 public radio stations, and downloaded more than two million times a month. The Atlantic magazine hailed Snap’s Glynn Washington as “the first African American (NPR) host to swing a big cultural stick, the first who seems likely to become a public-radio superstar on the order of Glass or Garrison Keillor . . .”Snap Judgment LIVE features the world’s finest storytellers, on stage, backed by Snap Judgment band. These storytellers dig deep, and audiences marvel as Snap Judgment crafts powerful multi-platform experiences (radio, stage, screen, web) that deliver raw, intimate narratives and a glimpse into the lives of strangers. Before Snap Judgment, Glynn worked as an educator, diplomat, community activist, actor, political strategist, fist-shaker, mountain-hollerer, and foot stomper. He composed music for the Kunst Stoff dance performances in San Francisco, rocked live spoken word poetry in Detroit, joined a band in Indonesia, wrote several screenplays, painted a daring series of self-portraits, and released a blues album. He thinks his stories are best served with cocktails.Tickets will go on sale to the public on Thursday, July 20 for $52.00 / $42.00 at the historic Franklin Street Box Office, and $56 / $45 online (including fees.) A limited number of VIP tickets, which include premium seating and access to the private cast party with complimentary beer, wine and light hors d’oeuvres, are available for $132 at the Box Office and $139.50 online.
