Where Hands Touch is a coming-of-age story set in the most brutal of times: Germany, 1944. Amandla Stenberg (The Hunger Games) plays Leyna, the 15-year old daughter of a black African father and a white German mother (Abbie Cornish, Three Billboards Outside Ebbings, Missouri), meets Lutz (George MacKay, Captain Fantastic), an atypically compassionate member of the Hitler Youth whose father (Christopher Eccleston, Doctor Who) is a prominent Nazi solider.
Each feeling bereft of a place of belonging in their tumultuous and frightening world, they forge an unlikely (to say the least) connection. As Leyna’s mother strives to protect her from the horrors that she could face as a mixed-race German citizen, Leyna is forced to mark out her own path — the war goes on, and the Nazis scale up their atrocities against the Jews, dissidents, and many other persecuted groups. Can she find an ally in Lutz, himself struggling against a fate laid out before him, a mantle that he’s hesitant to take on? Directed by Amma Asante (Belle), Where Hands Touch tells a charged and harrowing story that few would have the courage to address.
