An ensemble cast of young actors stars in this adaptation of a Stephen King short story about four friends in small-town Oregon and what happened the time they found a dead body. Threatened from outside and troubled from within, they must stand up for what’s right as they learn a lot of hard lessons in one fateful weekend.

There has always been room in American pop culture for the coming-of-age story, and nobody comes of age without trauma. And nobody knows more about trauma than Stephen King. 2017 seems especially interested in the coming-of-age story as nostalgia experience – Stranger Things is still on everybody’s mind, and IT (King’s second draft of a story about a team of kids who learn lessons about the transition into adulthood through the discovery of something horrific) was a huge phenomenon earlier this year. But besides basic structure, the thing all these stories have in common was done first and best by Stand By Me: the friendship and humor at the dramatic heart of this gang of kids growing up together.
