Tampa Theatre welcomes SharkCon back to Tampa with a special late-night showing of Sharknado!
It’s the story of a wealthy and powerful newspaper magnate whose complicated and tumultuous life is explored only after his death, and the mysterious single word that he … hmm? Oh, our apologies, that’s Citizen Kane. Sharknado is a movie about a tornado filled with sharks. Well, actually many tornadoes, each filled with sharks, all of which hate Los Angeles.Look, at this point what jokes haven’t been told about Sharknado? The premise is insane, the cast is bonkers, and the entire success of the movie franchise (did you know there are four Sharknado movies? There are four Sharknado movies… with a fifth on the way) hinged on an explosion of social-media word of mouth. But what gets lost on a lot of viewers is that Sharknado is a B-movie from the proud, hoary tradition of B-movies, and it’s just self-aware enough to tiptoe the line of funny-on-purpose and funny-accidentally. B-movies have been around as long as movies have been, and a great B-movie is a joy to behold. As if we needed to chum the waters further (see what we did there?) Sharknado director Anthony C. Ferrante – who will be in town for SharkCon – is going to come do a special film intro and audience Q&A before the screening. This guy straight-up pitched a movie about a tornado filled with sharks, and it worked, and you get to meet him. Only at Tampa Theatre, folks. Come get bit with REWIND and Sharknado!
