adio Service DJ Adrian Cronauer (Robin Williams in his first breakout role) is assigned to a post in Vietnam and tries to bring some levity to Armed Forces Radio. Bucking the status quo and shaking up the studio, he is popular with the troops but despised by management. But his exposure to the real war, and the people of Vietnam, will change him and his role forever.

Critic Richard Corliss called Good Morning, Vietnam “the best military comedy since M*A*S*H.” And M*A*S*H is probably the only comparison you can make – Robin Williams’s expansive tour de force as a radio operator in wartime seems impossible to imagine from any other actor or in any other context. Williams improvised most of his broadcasts, and thank goodness director Barry Levinson let him; he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor. From Patch Adams to his work with Comic Relief, Robin Williams knew more than possibly any other artist about humor as a response to trauma, grief or pain. Good Morning, Vietnam couldn’t have belonged to anyone else.
