Event Details

On Friday, May 24, Tampa Theatre will host the Tampa debut of the touching new documentary, The Biggest Little Farm. Already a film festival favorite at Sundance, Toronto, Telluride and others, the documentary  chronicles John and Molly Chester’s eight-year quest as they trade Los Angeles apartment living for 200 acres of barren farmland and a dream to harvest in harmony with a sometimes unforgiving environment.

To celebrate opening night, the landmark movie palace has called together some of the Bay area’s best small farms, sustainable businesses, and environmentally friendly entrepreneurs for a Franklin Street Farmer’s Market from 5:30-7:30pm under the historic marquee. Guests can enjoy samples, sales and information from a growing list of organizations, including:

  • Bike/Walk Tampa Bay, a regional coalition of citizens, advocates, professionals, and allied organizations supporting environmentally sustainable transportation options
  • The Tampa Bay Beekeeper’s Association of hobbyists, commercial and migratory beekeepers, and enthusiasts, who will be bringing an observational hive
  • TrailBale Farm of Temple Terrace, specializing in organic fed, sensibly raised, pastured meat
    and eggs
  • Waldenponics, a community focused business providing urban agroecology to the greater Tampa Bay area
  • Whitwam Organics, a registered nursery in Tampa specializing in garden bed installations
    and education

The first 200 participants will receive a FREE Tampa Theatre reusable grocery bag, and guests are also invited to drop off their unwanted wires, batteries, phones and other electronics for recycling, courtesy of Urban E Recycling. (For a list of acceptable items, please visit
