Music meets the Mob in this biographical documentary about the life and career of Bert Berns, the most important songwriter and record producer from the sixties that you’ve never heard of. Narrated by Stevie Van Zandt and directed by Bert’s son Brett, Bang! tells the story of Berns’ too-short career (he died at the age of 38) as he amassed a songwriting portfolio that defies belief, with hits like “Twist and Shout,” “Hang On Sloopy,” “Here Comes The Night,” and “Piece Of My Heart.”
Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame just last year, Berns also helped launch the careers of Van Morrison and Neil Diamond and produced some of the greatest soul music ever made. Included in the film are interviews with Ronald Isley, Ben E. King, Solomon Burke, Van Morrison, Keith Richards and Paul McCartney, along with other industry luminaries, and rare live performance footage is interwoven to tell the story as well.
