Carla Ibanez is a bilingual communications professional with years of experience using storytelling to build visibility, strengthen community connection, and amplify underrepresented voices. As the Media & External Affairs Coordinator at Tampa Downtown Partnership, she supports the organization’s mission while shedding light on people, places, and partnerships that make Downtown thrive.
Working at the intersection of media, community engagement, and public affairs, Carla helps share stories that reflect Downtown’s unique blend of history, culture, and innovation. Her work focuses on elevating local voices, supporting external communications, and ensuring the community remains informed, represented, and connected.
Before joining the Partnership, Carla worked as a TV News Producer at WFLA in Tampa Bay and at WFTX in Southwest Florida, where her team earned a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Breaking News Coverage during Hurricane Ian. Playing a key role in covering the devastating storm strengthened her commitment to public-focused communication during critical moments.
Beyond the newsroom, she has expanded her community-centered storytelling skills through the Tampa Bay Association of Black Journalists and through public relations work alongside NABJ’s former president, Kathy Times.
She holds a degree in Public Relations & Advertising with a minor in Mass Communications from the University of South Florida. Born in Peru, with formative ties to Colombia, Carla’s passion lies in amplifying diverse voices and is happy to call Tampa home.
My perfect day in Downtown is grabbing coffee and a breakfast sandwich from SuperNatural Food & Wine, then going roller-skating at the Bro Bowl. I also love checking out books at the John F. Germany Public Library and watching sunsets from Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park.
Come to a meeting. Join a committee. We look forward to hearing how we can help you shape Tampa’s future!
