Surrounding Areas

It’s all good in the surrounding neighborhoods.

The downtown area is surrounded by some of Tampa’s best neighborhoods. Known as the Intown area, these neighborhoods, together with downtown, make up a community with more than 90,000 residents. Each area has its own style and character, bringing together a diversity of places to explore.

Davis Islands

With a level-one trauma center hospital, a commuter size airport, a yacht club, a classic small town retail strip, a community college, and superb urban living, Davis Islands is a community that has it all. Visitors forget they are in the heart of the city when they drive onto Davis Islands. Local residents enjoy the short commute to and from work during the day and spectacular water views in the evening.

Hyde Park/Bayshore Boulevard

Graceful, stately style mansions line shade-drenched streets with quaint, bungalow homes, making Hyde Park one of the most desired neighborhoods in Tampa Bay. Within just a few blocks you can shop in your favorite boutiques, take in a casual lunch or take it up a notch for a night on the town. Nestled in the heart of the community is Hyde Park Village—a European style, open-air shopping area featuring local and national specialty shops.

SoHo District

A visit to Tampa is not complete without a visit to the SoHo District and its collection of great restaurants and clubs. Short for “South Howard Avenue,” this entertainment district is the perfect place for a night out, whether you want to get some grub or get your groove on. From world-famous Bern's Steakhouse, the dining choice of visiting presidents and world leaders, to small, local, trendy eateries, the SoHo District is sure to exceed expectations.

Tampa Heights

A renaissance has begun in Tampa's oldest neighborhood. Tampa Heights has seen new people flow into the area with aims to restore it. Old Victorian-era homes are being renovated and families are returning. New businesses are also moving in, such as art galleries and coffee shops. Tampa Heights is home to Stetson University's College of Law’s Tampa campus, the Hillsborough County Bar Association, and a variety of office buildings.

Ybor City

Ybor City is Tampa's National Historic Landmark District. Once the "cigar capital of the world" and populated by thousands of immigrants from Spain, Cuba, Germany and Italy, the old cigar factories have been given new life as trendy restaurants, pulsating nightclubs and one of a kind specialty shops. Downtown Tampa and Ybor City are connected through both a historical past and the TECO Line Streetcar System, where fresh faces take in the historic charm of these streets every day.

Harbour Island

Just off the southern tip of downtown is Harbour Island. More than 6,000 residents, the upscale Westin Harbour Island Hotel, and two Class A office buildings make Harbour Island a community with all the conveniences found in an urban setting. The 177-acre island is almost built out. Spectacular water and city views grace the windows of its residents each day.
