City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department

City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Summer Day Camp in downtown Tampa Remember the friends you made at summer camp? Each summer the City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department welcomes thousands of children who come to share friendship, adventure and fun. In addition to a traditional multi week Summer Day Camp, which is available at many of the City's community centers and activity centers, the Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of one-week Special Interest Camps. Each Special Interest Camp offers an in-depth week on a particular concentration, such as art, aquatics and sports.

Florida Museum of Photographic Arts

Florida Museum of Photographic Arts Photocamp in downtown Tampa

The Florida Museum of Photographic Arts will be hosting another exciting summer of Photocamp!  The camp will offer children ages 7 - 13 an opportunity to learn about photography in it's various forms.  The camp will present opportunities for building photographers to gain comfort with their cameras in an entertaining environment.

Photocamp will conduct in two seperate weeks.  June 20-24 and July 11-15.  Each week offers different curriculum to create the opportunity for children to attend both weeks.  The price for one week is $135 for museum members and $185 for non-members.

The final projects of each week of camp will be exhibited in the 11th Annual Members' Show.

Kids love building robots and contraptions with LEGO® MINDSTORMS®! Our robotics camps give them a week to learn the basics and build robots to accomplish a variety of exciting challenges and missions. No special skills or prior experience are necessary!

The camp offers both a non-competitive curriculum for kids ages 8-14. They will learn engineering skills, programming, teamwork, critical thinking, and problem solving in a fun, enriching environment. Campers can attend the morning session, afternoon session or stay for the day.  This camp will take place July 18th through the 22nd.

Powerhouse Fitness Center is opening its multi million-dollar facility to youth campers. This camp will emphasize in a fun and health environment, the highest quality of fitness and education importance of nutrition and exercise. Promoting at an early age the importance of a living a lifestyle of health, fitness and safety. Most of all how it all can be accomplished while having fun!! The campers have full use of our state of the art, high-tech, oxygen-powered fitness center with spin-room, TRX suspension room, athletic training area, sandpit, pool, hydro-massage bed and cutting edge equipment and training techniques. Our highly qualified nationally recognized staff is ready to spend an exciting summer with our communities’ campers.

The owners of Powerhouse Health and Fitness Center will direct the camp personally. We have over 30 years combined of experience operating health and fitness centers. We also have been involved in youth camps in California, Florida and Arizona.

Powerhouse Fitness Center will supply each camper daily with a tasty, nutritional and healthy lunch and smoothie. Parents are required to make sure camper has a snack or breakfast before each day and to notify the programs staff of any food allergies or health restrictions a camper may have.

Tampa Bay History Center

Tampa Bay History Center’s History Adventure Camps in downtown Tampa
 

Dig, dance and paint your way through Tampa’s past during the Tampa Bay History Center’s History Adventure Camps beginning June 27th.

Uncover long-lost artifacts during Archaeology Adventures, brush up on your flamenco moves and practice your Spanish with Viva Tampa, and paint your masterpiece during Art Infusion. Designed for children ages 8 to 11, each week-long History Adventure Camp gives kids a unique opportunity to have fun while learning about Florida’s history.

Summer Camp Schedule:

June 27 - July 1:  Archaeology Adventures
Dig in to Florida’s past to a time when giant sloths and saber toothed tigers roamed free! Get your hands dirty as real archaeologists show how to study artifacts and discover what life was like for Florida’s first people.

July 11-15:  Let’s Play
It’s all fun and games this week! Play games and sports that kids played in the past and create your own Museum Olympics. Get wet and cool off during fountain games at our waterfront park.

July 25-29: Art Infusion
Paint, draw, and sculpt your way through the past! Fill your brush with coffee “ink” and show the world how you see Tampa. Your masterpieces will even hang in our gallery!

August 8-12: Viva Tampa!
Habla Espanol? Learn to speak Spanish as you make a Tampa-style Cuban sandwich or pick up some Latin dance moves! Celebrate the food, music, and festivals of Tampa’s rich cultures.

Each week-long camp is $150 for non-members/ $135 for TBHC members. Campers can register for each individually or sign up for all four. Camps begin at 9:00 a.m. and run until 4:00 p.m. Extended care is available for an additional fee. Pre-registration is required. Tampa Museum of Art

Tampa Museum of Art Summer Art Camp in downtown Tampa The Tampa Museum of Art is pleased to announce its schedule of classes for its highly popular summer camp.  Classes are offered for ages 6-14 and begin on June 20.  Please review the information below and reserve your child's spot in this Tampa summer tradition.

Summer camp at the Tampa Museum of Art is for ages 6– 14 depending on the session.

Ages 6-8

Week One: June 20 – June 24, 2011            Drawing and Painting

Explore the principles of painting and drawing using pencil, charcoal, and paints while experimenting with a variety of processes. Classes will increase the students’ understanding of color, composition, and the proper use of various media. Master and contemporary artists will be examined in these techniques.

Week Two: June 27– July 1, 2011             Visual Storytelling: Comic and Illustration

Develop visual narratives with an introduction to observational drawing, character design, and graphic novels. Students will experiment with a range of 2-D approaches including traditional drawing materials, digital photography, and mixed media.

Week Three: July 11– July 15, 2011             2-D & 3-D Techniques: Material Expressions

Discover art using a variety of materials including fabric, wire, clay, plaster, ink, and paint. Students will be introduced to artists working in similar formats to learn traditional and non-traditional techniques. Projects will include printmaking, bookmaking, relief, and architectural modeling.

Ages 9– 11

Week Four: July 18 – July 22, 2011             Drawing and Painting

Explore the principles of painting and drawing using pencil, charcoal, and paints while experimenting with a variety of processes. Classes will increase the students’ understanding of color, composition, and the proper use of various media. Master and contemporary artists will be examined in these techniques.

July 25 – July 29, 2011             Mixed Media and Sculpture

Experiment with volume, space, line, and texture to discover how each relates to building and carving three-dimensional forms. Work with metal, wax, wood, clay, and found objects to create individually inspired projects and group collaborations. Students will study the role of sculpture throughout art history.

AGES 12– 14

Week Six: August 1–August 5, 2011            Drawing and Painting

Explore the principles of painting and drawing using pencil, charcoal, and paint while experimenting with different processes. Classes will increase the students’ understanding of color, composition, and the proper use of various media. Different techniques will be explored through examination of the work of Master and contemporary artists. Classes will create student portfolios to share and critique.

Tampa Preparatory School

Tampa Prep summer camps in downtown Tampa

Across the River from downtown and the Performing Arts Center, Tampa Prep offers a wide array of summer programs, including Academic Courses for credit, Enrichment Courses, Sports Camp and Camp Terrapin for younger children. Tampa Theatre

Tampa Theatre Film Camp in downtown Tampa

At Tampa Theatre Film Camp, students 3rd through 12th grades will create live action and stop motion animation movies on Mac computers using programs like I-Movie and Garage Band and footage they shoot with digital cameras. Each student will premiere his or her film on Tampa Theatre’s big screen and receive a copy on DVD.

Tampa Theatre Film Camp is presented in partnership with the USF College of Education’s Florida Center for Instructional Technology.  

It runs select weeks from June 27th through July 29th. The cost is $165 for a half-day session, either 9-12 or 1-4, Monday through Friday.

The Florida Aquarium

The Florida Aquarium AquaCamp in downtown Tampa

When school is out, summer is in!  And that means AquaCamps at The Florida Aquarium!  Get NAUI open water certified in our SCUBA camp for 12-15 year olds.  Kids 10-14 years of age can participate in our Travel Camps and enjoy activities like snorkeling, kayaking, fishing and tubing around Tampa Bay.  If you would like to stay on location at The Aquarium there are numerous camps for you.  Our On Location Camps for ages 6-9 include science experiments, field trips and the opportunity to see live animals.  Half day programs for AquaTots and AquaKids, ages 3-6 include crafts, games and live animals.

Patel Conservatory at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts

Patel Conservatory Summer Camps in downtown Tampa

Registration is open for Patel Conservatory summer camps and classes at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts (formerly the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center).

More than 70 camps and classes are available for all skill and experience levels for age 2 through adult. Camps begin in June and include musical theater, on-camera acting, vocal arts, ballet, music camps for string and wind musicians, rock ‘n’ rollers and jazz enthusiasts. The popular arts sampler camps are back for a taste of music, dance and theater in one action-packed week. There are also camps such as the Theater Intensive for teens and pre-teens, Dance for Musical Theater, and opportunities for beginning and advanced singers! And if you long for the stage, you’ll want to be a part of the Patel Conservatory Summer Theater experience this summer—students in Grades 3 to 8 will perform Seussical the Musical Junior, and teens and adults can create their own musical in Laugh Out Loud: The Musical.

Summer is a great time for adults to explore the arts with more than 30 classes held evenings and weekends, June through August, in music, dance and theater. Classes include dance classes in Jazz, tap, hip-hop, modern and flamenco; stand-up comedy and acting; piano and guitar. And there are plenty of options for Pre-K youngsters including Creative Storytelling, dance, Suzuki Violin, and Tots and Tunes.

University of Tampa

University of Tampa Girls Basketball Camps in downtown Tampa

The Girls' basketball camps at the University of Tampa offer an opportunity for all athletes, regardless of age or ability level, to participate in an exciting session of basketball instruction. All camps are designed to increase each camper's knowledge of the game, develop personal skill levels, and teach techniques for improvement of each camper's game.  All Skills Camp are week long day camps that runs from 9-4 Mon-Thurs, and 9-12 on Fridays for ages 5 and up.  

The cost for All Skills is $190 for the week.  We are offering 4 sessions this summer: All skills are held on June 13-17, Aug 1-5, Aug 8-12 and Our Elite camp is Aug 5-7.  Our Elite camp which is a commuter or residential camp for girls in grades 6 thru 12.  Check our website for details about costs.  Camps are conducted downtown on the beautiful campus of the University of Tampa.

University of Tampa Boys Basketball Camps in downtown Tampa

At the Tampa Boys' Basketball Camp, campers learn how to be well rounded, team-oriented basketball players, just like the Spartans. The sessions offer intense, specialized basketball instruction with an emphasis on the fundamentals of basketball, including dribbling, shooting, rebounding and defense. The Tampa Boy’s Basketball Camp provides a rewarding and enjoyable experience for campers of all ability levels. Our staff features University of Tampa coaches and players. University of Tampa Spartans Baseball summer camps in downtown Tampa

The Spartans Baseball Camp is geared to improve each camper's overall baseball skills.  Emphasis will be placed in the following areas: Fielding, Throwing, Hitting, Pitching, Base Running, and Game Situations.  All instruction will be provide by a qualified staff led by UT’s Head Coach, Joe Urso and Associate Head Coach, Sam Militello.  The camp will be conducted at The University of Tampa Baseball Field, located on the beautiful campus of The University of Tampa.  Camp will run from 9am-4pm, Monday-Thursday and 9am-12pm on Friday.

University of Tampa summer soccer camps in downtown Tampa

The Spartan Soccer Academy Camps are held on the 100-acre campus of the University of Tampa.  Campers are housed and all meals are in our on-campus facilities.  Soccer activities are held in the Pepin Rood Stadium (located on campus).  The goal of our camp is to make sure each camper leaves a more improved player.  Campers rotate through technical stations receiving instructions from each of our head coaches and players.  Supervision of campers is provided by our staff coaches.

In addition, the University provides 24-hour security for all groups on the campus.  It is our goal to make your camp experience memorable, enjoyable, and educational.  Activities are well planned, and designed to challenge each participant.

Downtown Tampa volleyball camps

The Tampa Volleyball Camps are held on the 100 acre campus of The University of Tampa.  Campers are housed and fed in our on-campus facilities.  Volleyball activities are held in the Martinez Sports Center and an Auxiliary Gym (located on our campus). 

The goal of our camp is to lay a foundation of individual and team skill for the upcoming school season.  Campers are ability grouped and trained at a challenging level. It is our mission to make your camp experience the best yet.  Activities are well planned, start on time, and will challenge each participant to become a better player.

All Skills Clinic/Skills Specialty Camp take place July 5-8  and July 9-12. Recommended for ages 12 to 18. 

An all skills clinic for beginning through advanced levels. All Campers will be grouped with Campers of their similar skill level, this will maximize their learning.  Throughout this camp we cover all individual skills (passing, setting, serving, attacking, blocking and floor defense).  Night sessions are generally devoted to some specialization by position and team competitions.
