Summer Discount Program Launches July 1st with 58 Participants

TAMPA, Fla. (July 01, 2010) — The Tampa Downtown Partnership will launch its popular Summertime Savings Card today!

The Summertime Savings Card is a “show your card and save” discount program offering amazing discounts at 58 of downtown’s most popular restaurants, retailers, service providers and entertainment venues.

All downtown merchants, restaurants, service providers, cultural and entertainment establishments were invited to participate in the Summertime Savings Card program at no charge.

The Summertime Savings Card includes a brochure listing the names, addresses, telephone numbers, website and the discount being offered at the fifty-eight (58) participating establishments in the program.  A detachable discount card is included with the brochure and can be stored in the consumer’s wallet or purse.  The customer will receive the discount at the participating establishment by showing the card.  The consumer retains the card to use over and over again at participating venues.

Customers will be able to identify participating venues easily because each venue has been provided a window cling to display stating that they are a participating merchant.

New this year is the ability for card holders to subscribe to a weekly newsletter sent out on Wednesdays throughout the duration of the program.  The newsletter will highlight participating venues each week.  A section in the newsletter called “Explore the Core” will offer ways to maximize savings while utilizing the card through mini downtown itineraries.  Log onto www.tampasdowntown.com/summertime for more details.

To familiarize card holders with downtown Tampa, the Summertime Savings Card brochure contains a map. The map highlights major downtown landmarks, parking garages and other urban features such as Tampa’s Riverwalk.

The Summertime Savings Card program is valid July 1, 2010 through September 6, 2010 – Labor Day.  Brochures and the detachable cards are free and can be obtained by visiting one of the participating venues; by requesting a brochure from Tampa’s Downtown Guides; or visiting the offices of the Tampa Downtown Partnership at 601 N. Ashley Drive, Suite 1100 in downtown Tampa.

Details on where to find a brochure and card are available at www.tampasdowntown.com/summertime.

A total of 26,000 brochures have been produced of which 14,390 brochures being directly mailed to residents of downtown and the surrounding neighborhoods.  The Partnership also has mailed packets of 50 brochures to businesses in downtown with 50 or more employees.  The total distributed to businesses was 6,000.  The remainder of the brochures will be available through the distribution points mentioned.

Downtown businesses participating in the program have been asked by the Tampa Downtown Partnership to report the number of people who utilize the discount program in order to track its effectiveness.

Bill Gillen, 2010-2011 chairman of the Tampa Downtown Partnership, believes the Summertime Savings Card program furthers the Partnership’s goal of promoting downtown Tampa as a diverse community offering a wide-variety of venues for people to enjoy.  “We want people to recognize downtown as an activity center.  We want people who work and now live here to learn what amenities are available directly in the core as well as how these amenities can enhance their daily lives and activities.”  Mr. Gillen stresses that during the current economic conditions, the Summertime Savings Card comes at a time when both businesses and people need the additional help.  “The Summertime Savings Card program shows that the downtown area is really a collection of unique experiences for everyone to enjoy.  And now that everyone is looking for a deal, downtown Tampa has some of the best offers going”.
