Chairman of Local Transportation Initiative "Moving Hillsborough Forward" To Give Keynote Address During 24th Annual Meeting & Luncheon

TAMPA, Fla. (June 08, 2010)— The Tampa Downtown Partnership will hold its 24th Annual Meeting & Luncheon on Wednesday, June 09, 2010 at the Tampa Convention Center (333 S. Franklin Street).  The event will begin at 11:30 a.m. with registration and networking followed by lunch at 12:00 p.m.

The Tampa Downtown Partnership will take this opportunity to look back at the past twelve months.  Mr. Keith Greminger, 2009-2010 chairman of the organization will share the achievements made during his tenure.  During his outgoing remarks, Mr. Greminger will share his impressions of how the Tampa Downtown Partnership has kept downtown Tampa moving forward during these challenging economic times.

The Tampa Downtown Partnership will install its 2010-2011 Board of Directors, Executive Committee and new Chairman Mr. Bill Gillen with the law firm of Shook Hardy & Bacon, LLP.  “Bill will bring to the Partnership direction that is both focused and visionary.  He will work to ensure that the Partnership continues its leadership role and work to see that we are prepared to address issues that will arise in downtown’s future,” said Tampa Downtown Partnership president, Christine Burdick.

As a continuing tradition and as a sign of the strong partnership between the City of Tampa and the Tampa Downtown Partnership, Mayor Pam Iorio will offer an update and perspective on how downtown Tampa is progressing.  During her comments, Mayor Iorio will share a video titled “State of Downtown.”  The video will highlight the past 7-years of progress under her leadership.

The keynote address will be presented by Mr. Gary Sasso. Mr. Sasso is president and CEO of Carlton Fields Attorneys of Law, and chairman of the Tampa Bay Partnership. Mr. Sasso also serves as the chair of "Moving Hillsborough Forward", a community campaign supporting the Hillsborough County Transportation Referendum.

In the near future, Downtown Tampa will be reinforced as the epicenter of transportation in the region. Mr. Sasso will provide an update on the progress of the campaign, and the importance of the business community's involvement in this process, in order to help solve the traffic congestion problems, improve the economy by bringing jobs to the county, and create increased mobility options for the region.

“This is an important time in the history of the downtown community and Hillsborough County as a whole,” stated Keith Greminger, 2009-2010 chairman of the Tampa Downtown Partnership.  Mr. Greminger continued by mentioning that having Mr. Sasso share his insight and goals of Moving Hillsborough Forward is vital to the entire community understanding how the future of transportation development will impact the downtown area.  Bill Gillen, incoming chairman of the Partnership added that “Mr. Sasso’s comments at this time is key to educating the future on what the referendum in November will do for Hillsborough County.  I am looking forward to hearing what he has to share regarding his goals and how it will impact downtown Tampa in the future.”
