Getting Around - Bike and Walk!

Tampa BayCycle

Tampa BayCycle  - your SPOKESpeople for all things cycling - is your resource for local bicycling news, events, safety tips & advocacy.  The initiative encourages biking as an option for getting to work, school, for errands or recreational activities. The campaign is designed to bring people together who believe that riding a bicycle benefits both you and our entire community.

Tampa BayCycle is made possible through a grant from the Florida Department of Transportation and managed by the New North Transportation Alliance and Tampa Downtown Partnership.

Bike related activities include free Bike Safety Courses, fun group rides, light giveaways, bike to work events, and more. A complete schedule of events in Tampa Bay can be found here.

Considering bike commuting? Tampa Bay Area Regional Transportation Authority (TBARTA) offers a “Bike Buddy” program to connect cyclists with similar routes. They back it up with an Emergency Ride Home for peace of mind on a car-free day.

More Bike Parking:  In advance of the Coast Bikeshare program, the Tampa Downtown Partnership added more bike parking options with parking medallions, meter posts, bike racks and two self-repair stations.  Total places to park your bike increased to a total of 250!

Downtown Tampa Pedestrian and Bike Safety

WalkWise/BikeSmart is a grassroots effort to provide pedestrian and bicycle safety education and resources to downtown and the Tampa Bay community. In 2008, 11.1% of pedestrians and 17.4% of bicyclists killed in the U.S. died in Florida, which has 6% of the nation's population.  Raising awareness about this important issue is the first step.  The Tampa Downtown Partnership has partnered with FDOT to deliver a free Pedestrian Safety Presentation for your business, association, church, school or group.  Each attendee will receive a WalkWise/BikeSmart Tampa Bay reflective bag after the presentation and be named to our growing list of WalkWise Ambassadors.
